1. Rama's praise for Hanuman

Hanuman narrated the details of his Lanka visit to Rama. Rama was happy. " He has achieved no one else could. I have nothing to give him except an embrace," he praised Hanuman. Sita's whereabouts are known now. But how to cross the seas Rama was worried.
2. Sugreeva's encouraging words

Sugreeva said " Lord, you are the most valorous of the valorous. You should not be depressed. Now we know where Sita is and who the enemy. Think about building a bridge across the sea. Once the Vanara armies sight Lanka, Ravana will be no more. Victory will be yours. I see good omen, I am encouraged".
3. Lanka's fortifications

Rama nodded. He addressed Hanuman " tell me what you saw in Lanka". " Lord, Lanka is atop the Trikuta hill. There is no way to ascend it. On all sides, there are water, hill and forest forts. Across them, there a deep and wide moat surrounding the city. Guarding its four entrances are thousands of Rakshasa warriors. In the heart of the city are ten million Rakshasas", Hanuman said.
4. Vanara troops take to the roads

Hearing all this Rama told Sugreeva " my mate, let us start for Lanka. Now it is noon. This is the most auspicious time to start. Victory will be ours. Let us not delay any more. My right eye is twitching. I see good omens all around". Sugreeva mobilized the Vanara armies. Millions of them marched towards the sea following Rama.
5. Lakshmana consoles Rama

The Vanara army descended on the northern beaches of the sea. Thinking of Sita, Rama said to Lakshmana, " when will I see my Sita and bring her back?" " Do not lament. You will reach Ayodhya with Sita. I see propitious omens", Lakshmana replied.

6. Ravana conferring with all ministers

Ravana felt humiliated on burning of Lanka by Maruti. He commanded ministers for a meeting and said. "Oh Rakshasa Warriors , Rama will surely cross the sea and invade Lanka, give your advise to save Lanka.
7. Rakshasas give advise to Ravana

Rakshasas are strong bodied but they are fools without accessing their strength and that of the fern. They ill advised Ravana that in all that might in his command that he would definitely win the war with Rama.
8. Rakshasas commanded proclaiming there warier

then the Rakshasas commandant Prahasta said that he would kill all the Vanaras easy, Durmuka dagar Rakshasa said you don't kill all the Vanaras stated that they should tell a lie that they are emissaries of Bharatha and so saying that they should mix with Vanaras and kill them. And then Rama and Lakshmana out of despair. Die of heart break. Nikumbha and Vajarahasta made similar claims.
9. Vibhishana's wise advice

But Vibhishana got up with folded hands and addressed Ravana, " Brother, Rama is a mighty man. To think of an easy victory against him is unwise. Without knowing the strength of the enemy joining him in battle is foolishness. I am your well-wisher. Hand over Sita to Rama. It is for the good of all".
10 Vibhishana's vain bid

The next morning, the wise Vibhishana went to Ravana's living quarters. He saluted Ravana stood by his seat and said, " from the time you brought Sita to Lanka., there have been several ill-omens, every Lanka's citizen is aware of this but nobody dare tell you. I am your brother and well-wisher. So, I want you again handing back Sita is the only way to atone for your sin". Ravana replied, "Vibhishana, Rama cannot harm me. He cannot snatch Sita from me. Even with the help of Gods, he cannot defeat me," and sent away Vibhishana.

11. Ravana summons his Court

To discuss war strategy with his Ministers, Ravana summoned his Court. All his aides were present. Vibhishana also joined them. Suka and Prahasta were there too.
12 Ravana reveals Sita's abduction

Addressing the Court Ravana said, " I have abducted Rama's wife Sita from the Dandaka forest. I wanted to tell you this earlier. But Kumbhakarna was in his long slumber. Rama has now learnt the whereabouts of Sita. He will cross the seas and wage war against us. Tell me a way to defeat him".
13 Kumbhakarna scolds Ravana

Kumbhakarna was angry at Ravana for abducting Sita, intoxicated by lust. " Ravana, you kidnapped Rama's wife without anyone of us knowing about it. Now there is no point in regretting. If you had consulted us earlier, we would have given you proper advise. Now, danger lurks everywhere, what is the use of regretting now?"

" You are my brother. So, now I have no way for me but to stand by you. I shall protect you and kill Rama and Lakshmana. I will slay all the Vanaras," Kumbhakarna declared.
14 Mahaparsva eggs on Ravana

Mahaparsva hailed Sita's abduction. " Lord, now enjoy with Sita even by force, you have great strength. We shall capture the enemy and hand him over to you".

Ravana said," I cannot enjoy a woman by force as there is curse upon me from Bramha that the moment I attempt it, my ten heads will break into a thousand pieces".
15 Vibhishana scolds Prahasta

Vibhishana was sorry at the conceit of Prahasta that he could alone defeat the enemy. " Prahasta," he said " you have not yet tasted the effectiveness of Rama's bow. Even joined by Kumbhakarna, Indrajit and the entire Rakshasa army, you cannot defeat Rama. You are all leading the Rakshasas to ruin. As his Ministers, you should give the King right advice but you took him down to the wrong path. Handing over Sita back to Rama would ensure the safety of the Rakshasas. We must advise the King properly after weighing our strength and the enemy's".

16 Indrajit's Guffaws

Vibhishana was a wise man but his advice was disliked by Indrajit He told his father, " Vibhishana seems to be frightened. He is quite timid. He does not behave one born in Pulastya dynasty". Then he turned towards Vibhishana and said, " though you are a Rakshasa, you are admiring an ordinary Prince. To slay them all one, Rakshasa will be enough. For me who has subdued Indra what one Rama and Lakshmana?. Why are you trying to create scare here?" Vibhishana chastised him for his guffaws and repeated his plea to Ravana.
17 Ravana insults Vibhishana

Vibhishana's advice was not palatable to Ravana. " Vibhishana, you are jealous of my wealth, strength and popularity. Now you have turned against me. I spared you because you are my brother. Otherwise, I would have killed you. You are a betrayer. You bring disrespect to our clan, get lost".
18. Vibhishana goes to Rama

After this insult, Vibhishana left Lanka with his four aides to see Rama. Seeing him arrive by the skyway, Sugreeva and other Vanaras mistook him for an invader. But Vibhishana shouted on landing on the beach," I am Ravana's brother. He has thrown me out for advising him to return Sita to Rama. I am Vibhishana. I have come to seek protection of Rama". Sugreeva was suspicious and urged Rama not to believe his words.
19 Vanaras suspicions

After Sugreeva expressed his doubts, Rama sought the opinion of other Vanara Heroes. Angada, Sarabha and Jambavan expressed their reservation about Vibhishana. But Hanuman said, " Vibhishana is aware of Ravana's weaknesses and your valor. If he is a spy, he will betray himself some time or the other. I feel he is honest".
20. Assurance to Vibhishana

After hearing Hanuman, Rama came to the conclusion that Vibhishana had come to make friends with him. " I had taken an oath to protect anyone who came to seek my protection," so saying Rama assured Vibhishana protection.

21 Vibhishana reveals Ravana's secrets

After assuring him refuge Rama asked Vibhishana the details of the forces of Ravana. Vibhishana replied, " Ravana obtained boons from Brahma which make him invincible. Beings of the nether world or the Gods cannot defeat him. Kumbhakarna is a man of great strength. My nephew Indrajit is skilled in guerilla war. Besides he has mighty generals and officers."

Rama asked him to tell him the way to reach Lanka. Vibhishana said, " If you ask the Lord of the sea will help you." Rama said, " I shall certainly kill Ravana and so I am anointing you King of Lanka now." Rama spread a grass mat and slept on the sea beach.
22. Ravana's envoy

Ravana's spy Sardula kept surveillance on the beach and reported back on the position and strength of Sugreeva's troops. Ravana sent Suka as envoy to Sugreeva and asked him to give this message. " You are the son of Riksharaja and therefore my cousin. By aligning with Rama you won't gain anything. Go back to Kishkindha and take care of your Kingdom. Neither Gods nor Gandharvas can enter Lanka. Then how can ordinary men or Vanaras enter Lanka? Suka went to Sugreeva in the guise of a bird and delivered Ravana's message. The Vanara's began beating him when Suka appealed to Rama, he stopped them saying" he is a messenger, so you should not kill him."
23 Suka sent back

Sugreeva told Suka, " Take this message back to Ravana. You are not my friend. Moreover, you are the enemy of Rama. My enemy Vali was your friend. So, you are my enemy too. I should not spare you. I shall burn your Lanka. Rama will not leave you wherever you hide in the three worlds."
24 Rama's ire at Sea God

Rama sat on the grass mat and prayed the Sea God for three days and nights. But the Sea God did not materialize. So Rama got angry and dispatched rows of powerful arrows at the Sea. All the creatures in the Sea shook with fear. There was a violent wind. Waves rose sky high. When Rama was to dispatch another divine weapon, Lakshmana stopped him.
25 Vanaras cross the Sea

Then the Sea God Samudra emerged. " Lord Rama, I should not make the Sea shallow. Then all the creatures in it will perish. So, build a bridge across the Sea. The Sea creatures will help you in this." Rama never takes back his arrow. So, he dispatched it towards Drumakulya where Rakshasas lived. Four sons of Viswakarma, the divine architect built a bridge to Lanka in five days and Vanara troops crossed the Sea and landed on the other shore.

26 Rama surveys Lanka

Rama observed several ill-omens for the Rakshasas. With Lakshmana Sugreeva, Hanuman and Angada he began surveying the enemy fortifications.
27. Ravana's determination

Rama observed the colorful flags and masts adorning Lanka. He prepared the strategy for the Vanara army's attack on Rakshasas. Suka informed Ravana that the Vanara army had crossed the Sea and was confronting Lanka. Ravana declared with anger: " Even if Gods, Danavas and Gandharvas combine to attack me, I shall not hand over Sita. Rama will taste my might. I have defeated Indra and Yama, so, who is Rama?"
28 Ravana's spies caught

Ravana sent an espionage team headed by Suka and Sarana into the Vanara army to find out about its strength. Vibhishana caught and handed them over to Rama. But Rama set them free. The spies returned to Ravana and told him about the strength of the enemy and urged him to hand over Sita to Rama.
29 Ravana's survey

To study the position of the Vanara arrivals, Ravana himself went to the ramparts of his fort. He surveyed the endless troop formations of the enemy in front of him.
30 An Array of Vanara Heroes

Sarana told Ravana, " King, those armies are ready to lay down their lives for Rama. Vanara hero Hara has come with millions of his troops. Dhoomra, Jambavan who had obtained several boons from Indra, men of great strength Dambha, Sannada, Krodhana, Gavaksha, Vanara leader Kesari, Satavali, Gaja, Nala, Neela- all have come with their troops."

ravinder said...

31 Suka identifies enemy heroes

Suka added, " King, see that side are Mainda and Dwivida, equal in strength to elephants in rut. Behind them is a hundred million army. Look there, son of the God of death Sumukha and Durmukha as valorous as their father. Yonder is Hanuman, who had crossed the Sea in a jiffy. The dark man near him Rama. To his right is his brother Lakshmana and to his left is Vibhishana. The one wearing the golden necklace is Sugreeva. They are all set to attack us."
32 Ravana dismisses aides

Ravana was perturbed after sighting the enemy troops but soon turned towards his aides Suka and Sarana and said, " though my aides you are praising the enemy. Those who praise the enemy should be killed but I will spare you because of the services you rendered in the past. Resign your posts and leave the place." He again dispatched other spies to study the enemy positions.
33 Ravana nervous

The spies returned to Ravana with the information that Rama was poised near the Suvela mountain. Ravana was frightened. He asked a spy Sardula, " tell me about the enemy forces." Sardula replied, " it is difficult to evaluate their strength. They are protected by Rama. Entries into the troop formations are well-guarded. Vibhishana's men captured me but Rama left me alive. On the enemy side there are great heroes like Sugreeva, Jambavan and Hanuman. Besides, the Vanara army is an estimated hundred million strong forces. They are all set for the attack. I have given you an estimate of the strength of the rival force. Decide what you would do now.
34 Ravana scares Sita

A shaken Ravana summoned all his aides and told them to be vigilant. He thought of playing some trick on Sita and summoned Vidyutjimha, who was adept in magical powers. He ordered him to bring a fake head of Rama and his bow to the Ashoka orchard where Sita has been kept. Then he proceeded there and told Sita that while Rama was asleep Prahasta had cut his head and that Vibhishana had been captured, Hanuman was dead and Lakshmana and Vanara heroes had fled. He summoned Vidyutjimha,to show her the fake head and bow of Rama.
35 Sita cries

Sita mistook the fake evidence as real and began to cry. Meanwhile, a messenger arrived to announce that Prahasta and other aides were waiting for him and Ravana left. As soon as he left, the fake articles disappeared.

36 Sarama consoles Sita

Sighting a crying Sita, Vibhishana's wife Sarama came near to console her. " This is all deception. There is no one who can kill Rama. He is invincible. Would Rama sleep before killing his enemies? He is poised to strike with a huge Vanara army on the beach. Learning about this, Ravana has hurried back. Believe me, Rama will kill Ravana and take you home."
37. Sarama eavesdrops on Ravana

Sita told Sarama to find out what Ravana intends to do now. She eavesdropped on Ravana's confabulations with his aides. " Ravana's mother Kaikasi and Minister Aviddha had advised him to hand you over to Rama. But Ravana spurred their advice. He would not give you up till he is killed by your husband. She reported back to Sita.
38. Malyawantha's advice

The Vanara army began its march on Lanka city blowing conchs and beating war drums. Hearing these sounds, Ravana scolded his aides for their complacence. One of Ravana's Kinsmen Malyawantha gave him final advice " King, who ever rules with political wisdom will be a happily ruler, when time is not propitious a King makes truce with his enemy. I feel it is time for you to make truce now. Handing over Sita to Rama is good for all. Think about a plan that keeps everyone's interests safe." But Ravana did not relish his words.
39 Ravana's defenses

Having spurred all save advice Ravana swore that he would wage war and kill Rama. Malyawantha thought his presence served no purpose and left. Ravana summoned his aides and prepared the strategy. The east gate was guarded by Prahasta, the sought gate by Mahodara and Mahaparsva. The west entry was held by Indrajit and the northern part by Suka and Sarana. Virupaksha was assigned the centre of the fort and Ravana himself was stationed at the northern gate.
40. Troops poised

Meanwhile, Rama worked out his strategy with Lakshmana, Sugreeva, Hanuman, Jambavan, Angada, Sarabha, Sushena, Mainda, Dwivida, Gaja, Gawaksha, Kumuda,Nala,Neela and others. Vibhishana said his four aides had flown over Lanka in the guise of birds and described the deployment of the Rakshasa troops there. Rama assigned Neela to face Prahasta at the Eastern gate of the fort, Angada to combat Mahodara and Parsva at the Southern gate and Hanuman to the Eastern gate. Vibhishana was assigned to fight the forces in the middle of the fort. Rama and Lakshmana were to attack Ravana at the Northern gate.

41 Surveillance

Rama, Lakshmana and the Vanara leaders and generals climbed the Suvela Hill to watch Ravana's fort from there in the night.
42 The glory of Lanka

The next morning they surveyed the forest forts and forests from there. Beyond the forest fort, on the Trikuta Hill was the city of Lanka. It was hundred Yojanas deep and thirty Yojanas wide. The gates were tall. The fort walls shone with the glitter of gold and silver. The thousand pillar temple in Lanka reached to the sky. Rama was surprised by the huge buildings,Parks and playgrounds in the Rakshasa capital.
43. Sugreeva-Ravana combat

Rama and the Vanara generals watched Ravana standing atop the spires of the fort. As he sighted Ravana, in the distance, anger swelled in Sugreeva's heart. He at once jumped in the air and reached Ravana, grabbed his golden crown and threw it on the ground. They had a hand-to-hand combat. Ravana started using his magical powers. Sensing this Sugreeva flew into the air. Sugreeva fought from the air till Ravana lost his stamina and went back to the hill.
44. Messenger to Ravana

Rama warned, wounded Sugreeva not to venture any fights without his consent. Deploying ten million Vanara soldiers at each of the four gates of Lanka. Rama bid Angada to go inside the fort and convey to Ravana that Rama had come to see his end. " Bring his reply" he told Angada.
45 Beginning of the battle

Rama went round the outside walls of the fort and ordered the troops to begin the attack. They wielded huge boulders and trees and marched on Lanka shouting, " Hail Rama, hail Lakshmana, hail Sugreeva." Ravana ordered a counter attack by his troops. Beating war drums they joined battle with Vanara troops.

46 A fierce battle

Rakshasa soldiers were unable to stand before the might of the Vanara armies. Egged on by their generals, the Rakshasa troops marched holding colorful flags on Chariots shouting war cries. Indrajit joined battle with Angada, Praghasuna attacked Sugreeva, Virupaksha met Lakshmana in battle and Agniketu and Rasmiketu fought Rama. A fierce battle ensued between the two forces.
47 Attack on Rama and Lakshmana

There was close combat between the two forces. Rama and Lakshmana slew several Rakshasas. Angada killed Indrajit's Charioteer and horses. Indrajit vanished leaving the damaged Chariot. An invisible Indrajit tied Rama and Lakshmana in the loops of the snake weapon.
48 Rama and Lakshmana fall to the ground

Having been snared by the lassoing snake weapon, Rama told Angada, Jambavan and eight other generals to trace where Indrajit was fighting from. Angada flew into the sky. Indrajit's rain of arrows was slowing down the progress of the Vanara forces. Rama and Lakshmana were bleeding profusely and fell to the ground. Seeing this, the Vanara forces began ululating.
49 Indrajit's day

Sugreeva and Vibhishana returned first from the search of Indrajit. They were followed by Hanuman,Neela,Mainda,Dwivida,Sushena,Kumuda and Angada. They saw the prostrate brothers Rama and Lakshmana with saddened faces. Sugreeva was worried but Vibhishana gave him courage. Ravana was pleased with his son's valor.
50 Sita cries

Ravana announced throughout Lanka that Rama and Lakshmana had died. Rakshasa women who had been keeping guard for Sita were ordered to take her by the Pushpaka to show her fallen husband. She was taken to see the fallen Rama and Lakshmana from the sky. Trijata too accompanied her. Sita thought they were dead and began crying.

ravinder said...

51 Sita consoled

But Trijata said, " do not worry, your husband is alive. If something untoward happened thus Pushpaka would not have flown here. If the leader dies, his army will run helter-skelter and dissolve. See there is no such sight here. Vanaras are taking care of them. They are only unconscious, believe me."
52. Vanaras flee

The wounded Rama and Lakshmana were surrounded by the Vanara troops. Rama slowly opened his eyes. He was sorry to see a wounded Lakshmana covered with blood. The demoralized Vanara troops began to flee. Exhorting the fleeing troops to return Vibhishana, wielding his club moved towards Rama.
53 Garuda saves Rama and Lakshmana

Mistaking the club-weilding Vibhishana for Indrajit, the Vanara troops surroundings Rama began to run away. But Jambavan brought them back. Sushena told Sugreeva that to treat the wounds of Rama and Lakshmana Sangivakarani and Visalyakarani were the only drugs which were available on Chandradrona Hill in the midst of the milky sea. Only Hunaman could go fetch it, he said. To set the two wounded Heroes Garuda came and at the sight of him the snakes that were binding them slipped away. At his touch, their wounds also healed at once. Garuda wished them victory and left. Vanaras then resumed their attack with renewed vigor.
54 Ravana orders fresh attack

At his Court Ravana heard the Vanara troops' war cries. He was informed about Rama and Lakshmana recovering and the Vanara troops renewing the attack. " If Indrajit's lassoing snake weapon had failed Rakshasa armies are in trouble," Ravana felt, and ordered Dhumraksha too lead a huge army in to the battle. He headed to the Western gate way where Hanuman had laid siege to the fort.
55 Dhumraksha killed

fierce battle then ensued. Vanaras were fighting with huge boulders and trees while the Rakshasas wielded awesome weapons like the trident. Dhumraksha was raining arrows on Vanara troops. They began retreating. Observing this Hanuman, hurled a huge boulder at Dhumraksha's chariot. Dhumraksha fell to the ground, his chariot broken into pieces. Another boulder Hanuman threw which hit Dhumraksha on the head killing him instantly. Seeing him die, Rakshasa troops fled into the safety of the fort.

56 Vajradamstra on the battle field

Ravana heard about the death of Dhumraksha. He was furious like a Cobra trodden on its tail. He then ordered the mighty Vajradamstra to go to the battle field. Wearing his helmet and armor, holding his huge bow, Vajradamstra marched towards the South gate despite several ill-omens where Angada was advancing. Angada killed many of the defending troops and the rest retreated.
57 Vajradamstra decapitated

Enraged by the death of his troops Vajradamstra launched a fierce attack and killed many Vanara troops. Vanaras went behind Angada. The two fought fiercely and both were injured. A huge hill dispatched by Angada fell on Vajradamstra's chariot crushing both the vehicle and the horses. Then Angada decapitated Vajradamstra with his sword. Seeing his severed head and body his troops ran helter-skelter.
58 Akampana sent to battle

Ravana learnt about Vajradamstra's death. He turned to his commander-in Chief Akampana and commanded him to go to battle and said " you are known for subduing the enemy. You go and defeat Rama, Lakshmana and Sugreeva and kill the Vanara troops. Akampana mounted a huge battle chariot and led another huge army to the battle field.
59 Hanuman batters Akampana to death

He fought fiercely and the arrows from his bow bombarded the Vanara troops relentlessly. The enemy troops began fleeing. Seeing this Hanuman plucked a huge tree from the ground and hit Akampana on the head with all force. Akampana fell and died. Vanara troops raised victory cries.
60 Prahasta enters war

The war was going badly for Ravana. He pondered over it and consulted his Ministers. He went to his Court and called Prahasta. He told Prahasta to go to the battle field. Prahasta said, " I shall fight till my last breath," and took a skilled charioteer and four aides with him to the fighting. He had several ill-omens on the way. A kite landed on his flag staff. The goad slipped from his charioteer's hand and the horses fumbled.

ravinder said...

61 Prahasta killed

Prahasta played havoc with his sharp arrows with the enemy troops. Neela immediately engaged him. Prahasta rained arrows on him but unmindful of the fierce attack on him Neela pulled out a huge tree and battered Prahasta's chariot and horses. As Prahasta was about to dispatch a heavy stake at him, Neela hurled a gigantic boulder which hit the Rakshasa hero on the head. His cranium broke open with its impact and Prahastra fell to the ground. Watching this Rakshasa soldiers began running away.
62 Rama sights Ravana

Ravana himself marched into the battle field with a huge army. He saw the Vanara troops wielding huge trees and mountain size boulders set to attack. Seeing Ravana rushing towards the battle field on a chariot drawn by the horses Rama asked Vibhishana who he was. Vibhishana identified Ravana, Indrajit, Atikaya, Trisara , Kumbha, Nikumbha and Narantaka to Rama and told him about their strengths. Rama was struck by the sight of handsome Ravana and the aura surrounding him. " The aura betrays his strength. None of the Gods or Rakshasas has it. Now that I have sighted him, my anger at him for abducting Sita will be quenched," Rama told Vibhishana.
63 Ravana's chariot destroyed

Rama and Lakshmana stood ready with their bows and arrows and marching towards Ravana. Ravana was slaying Vanara troops left and right. Rama sat on Hanuman's shoulders and joined battle with Ravana. Ravana's chariot wheels were broken. His charioteer fell to the ground dead. One arrow from Rama's bow toppled Ravana's crown. Ravana fell unconscious. He recovered after sometime but was tired. Rama said "Ravana, you are tired now. In such condition as you are it is not right for me to kill you. Go back and return to fight after you recover." Ravana left the battle field.
64 Ravana recalls curses

Ravana suffered pain and was afraid. He did not know what to do next. He recalled the curses given him by the Ikshawaku King Anaranya, Vedavati, Nandi, Uma and several sages. He felt he was heading for ruin. Ravana then ordered his men to wake up Kumbhakarna.
65 Kumbhakarna wakes up

Soldiers entered Kumbhakarna's house passing through the one-and-a half Yojanas wide gate. They blew conchs, shouted like thunder in his ears. They tapped his body hard. Kumbhakarna did not wake up. They poked him with iron spikes, hit him with clubs and wooden ponders. Still he did not wake. Then they tried loud music with long pipes and huge percussion drums simultaneously. When all these failed, a thousand elephants were made to trod upon his chest. Thinking some insects might have been crawling up on his body, Kumbhakarna slowly opened his eyes. Rakshasas gave him the news that Ravana was defeated at the hands of Rama and his life was in danger. Kumbhakarna was furious and went to Ravana

ravinder said...

66 The curse of Brahma

Sighting this mountainous character with a crown Rama asked Vibhishana who he was. "He is the son of Viswavasu, Kumbhakarna. He vanquished Yama and Indra. He was born with great strength. He was born with a terrible appetite and began eating every living being in sight. Fearing he would soon empty the whole Universe of any living beings Brahma cursed Kumbhakarna to lie asleep for ever. After entreaties from Ravana, Brahma amended his curse so that for every six months of sleep he would be awake for one day.
67 Ravana seeks Kumbhakarana's help

Kumbhakarna went to Ravana's Chamber in the royal palace. Ravana embraced him and invited him to sit by his side. " Brother, when you were asleep Rama had killed several Rakshasas. Now only the aged and the very young are left. Only you can save Lanka now. Go and drive away the enemy and make me happy" Ravana said.
68 Kumbhakarna's assurance

Kumbhakarna taunted Ravana why he had abducted Sita unwisely and why he risked war without estimating the strength of the enemy. Ravana was upset, " Past is past. Nothing comes out of digging up the past. This is not the time for introspection. If you have respect for me, if you love me and faith in your valor show them now," he said. Kumbhakarna assured him, " You are my brother. I shall fight and kill Rama and all others. Then you can live with Sita happily.
69 Mahodara's plan

One Minister, Mahodara advised Kumbhakarna that it was not right to fight alone with Rama who had killed all the Rakshasas at Janasthana. Ravana, I have thought of a plan. Announce in Lanka that five Rakshasa Heroes, myself, Kumbhakarna, Dwijimhva and others should go to the battle field. If we fail to defeat Rama and Lakshmana broadcast widely that the five Rakshasa Heroes had killed Rama and Lakshmana. Hearing this, a frightened Sita losing all hope, will yield to you. Then you need not fight with Rama. If you fight with Rama you will be in danger. So, do not go to the battle field."
70 Kumbhakarna marches

Kumbhakarna scolded Mahodara for such a stupid and timid plan. He wore his golden armor, obtained his brother's blessings and holding a trident and parasol drove in a chariot towards the battle field. He too encountered several ill-omens. But he ignored them and came out of the fort. He saw the enormous Vanara army. Seeing this huge emanation Vanara forces fled in fright

ravinder said...

71 Angada exhorts Vanaras

Angada saw the Vanara forces fleeing. He addressed Nala, Neela and Gawaksha " It does not behave heroes like you to lose your courage. What you see before you is not a Rakshasa but a giant machine. Let us destroy it" Hanuman came there to help them. Vanara forces stood there and looking for orders from Sugreeva.

72 Kumbhakarna cut to pieces

Kumbhakarna slew vast armies of Vanaras and began eating Vanaras and Rakshasas without distinction. Rama watched the damage he had caused and deployed the Vayuvya weapon. It cut away Kumbhakarna's arms. With two crescent shaped arrows, he severed his legs. He aimed a sharp arrow at his throat which snapped his head. The severed head flew across Lanka hitting homes, fort gates and wall and fell inert on the ground. His crawling body fell in the sea killing a host of Sea creatures. While Gods hailed his death the Rakshasas cried his loss.
73 Ravana's grief

Ravana fainted on hearing the news of Kumbhakarna's death. Ravana's sons Devantaka, Narantaka, Trisira and Atikaya cried that their uncle had died. Mahodara and Mahaparsva lamented that they had lost their brother. Ravana was still full of grief when he recovered and lamented, " In your death, I have lost my right arm. Without heeding Vibhishana's advice I have come to grief"
74 Angada's valor

After consoling Kumbhakarna's sons, Ravana vowed to kill Rama and accompanied by Mahaparsva and Mahodara left for the battle field. Narantaka, riding a horse and wielding the sakti weapon killed several Vanaras. Those escaped his wrath went to Sugreeva to report. Sugreeva sent Angada. Angada went unarmed and used only his nails, teeth and limbs. He hit Narantaka's horse with his fist and jabbed his fingers at his heart. The horse fell to the ground and Narantaka's heart was pierced. He fell and died.
75 Three Rakshasa heroes killed

Next Mahodara mounted an elephant, Devantaka wielded an iron club and Trisira rode a chariot and engaged Angada. He was fighting valiantly alone when Hanuman and Neela joined him. With his diamond-hard fist Hanuman hit Devantaka on the head breaking it into pieces. Neela lifted a mountain and threw it at Mahodara killing Trisira rained arrows on Hanuman. Hanuman flew into the sky and killed his horses. Trisira attacked Hanuman with a sword. Hanuman hit him in the chest. Trisira lost his sword. Picking up that sword Hanuman felled all three heads with one stroke. The Rakshasa armies fled in panic.

"My job is to make the enemy grieve," said Indrajit and cut the fake Sita into two.

If there is dharma, it should help the righteous and punish evil. You fail to know who you are. Order me, I shall kill Ravana and his clan."
90 Vibhishana unravels the trick

Vibhishana came there with his four aides at the juncture. He saw Rama lying in the lap of Lakshmana. Vibhishana said," Rama, Sita's death is as impossible as the Sea drying up. It is all Indrajit's trick. Sita has been kept at a place no one can reach her. Meghanatha is at the temple of Nikumbhila performing a yaga. This was the trick he played upon you so that he can carry on with his yaga in peace. We must stop this yaga. Once he completes it no one can defeat him. So order Lakshmana to kill Indrajit without delay".

There is a curse from Brahma that whoever disrupts Indrajit's yaga at Nikumbhila temple will be able to kill him. So, despatch Lakshmana to do interrupt Indrajit there. If Indrajit died Ravana and everyone else is dead." With the blessings of Rama, Lakshmana, Sugreeva, Hanuman, Jambavan and Vibhishana and his four aides, along with Vanara soldiers headed for the Nikumbhila temple. 93 Indrajit-Vibhishana encounter

Vibhishana showed Lakshmana a huge banyan tree and said, " at that banyan tree Indrajit will offer a sacrifice and begin the attack. If he reaches there it is impossible to beat him. Before that you must attack and kill him." Indrajit saw Vibhishana and said," you have planned to harm me. You have disrupted my yaga. You have no love lost for your clan." Vibhishana replied: " you evil creature, though I was born a Rakshasa in character, and behavior I am not one. I do not perform evil deeds. That is why I abandoned my own brother. It is the end of Lanka. You will not be there, your father will not be there. You and your army will perish at the hands of Lakshmana."

94 Lakshmana engages Indrajit

Indrajit rode a chariot drawn by four horses. Lakshmana sat on the shoulder of Hanuman. Meghanatha shouted, " taste my arrows. I shall despatch you to Yama's abode. Who can stand the rain of my arrows?" Lakshmana shouted back, " show your valor in deeds, not in words." They began a fierce exchange of arrows.

95 Vibhishana goads Lakshmana

Hissing like a black Cobra, Lakshmana sounded his bow string. Indrajit's face turned white at the fearful sound. Vibhishana said" he is perturbed. This points to his inevitable defeat. You have discredited me by diverting the chariot from the battlefield. Have you been bribed by the enemy? Take me back there." His charioteer answered," Don't be angry. His body slipped out of the chariot. Frightened Rakshasa soldiers fled.
118 Vibhishana's grief

Seeing Ravana's prostrate body Vibhishana cried. " You did not heed my advise. You did not think abducting Sita would be fatal for you, " he lamented. Rama consoled Vibhishana, " Your brother died as a Hero. He fought like a Hero. He will sure to go to the heaven reserved for men of valor." 120 Mandodari's grief

Mandodari entered the battlefield in uncontrollable grief and looked at Ravana's dead body. " Lord, you shook the three worlds. I can not believe a mere mortal would kill you. When Rama killed Khara in Janasthana, I knew he was no ordinary mortal but Lord Narayana. Sita is the chastest gentlewoman. She has the tolerance of Earth. You were burnt by the fire of her grief. 124 Rama's lashing tongue

Rama said to Sita who stood before him with bowed head: " I have mitigated my shame and the enemy. My vow has been fulfilled. But do not think all this effort is for your sake. I fought to regain the honor and respect of my clan. Your conduct is suspect. Ravana laid his hands on you. His sights were set on you. Who from an honored clan would take back a wife who had lived in another man's house? I do not want you back. You may go where you please. I do not think Ravana would have kept a distance looking at your beauty and charm,". Sita cried at his harsh words.

125 Sita walks into flames

She bowed her head in shame. Her cheeks were wet with tears. She said in a tone filled with sorrow: " O great fighter why are you uttering unspeakable words like a lowly born man to a holy born woman? I am spotless, I swear. I shall take whatever vow you ask me to prove my character." She turned to a stunned Lakshmana and added: " Now the funeral pyre is my only resort. My husband has abandoned me. I shall jump into fire." Lakshmana prepared a pyre at the instance of Rama. Sita did first Pradakshina round Rama and then approached the flaming pyre. 127 Agni's command

Agni heard the praise showered by Brahma on Rama. He donned human form, shed the flames and lifted Sita from the pyre and took her to Rama. She shone pure like the morning Sun. Agni said, " Rama, here is your wife. She is innocent, is of impeccable character. She has been thinking of none but you. When she was unconscious, Ravana abducted her. She had not lifted an eyelid to look at him. Take her back, I command you." Rama said," Brahma, all the three worlds should know that Sita is innocent. If I had not tested her, I would have been scandalized. That way why I kept quiet when she jumped into fire. I know her spotless character was her protection."
128 Dasaratha's blessings

Dasaratha arrived from heaven in a glittering chariot and embraced Rama. " You have killed the enemy. I have attained salvation. As the plane flew across Kishkindha, Sugreeva suggested that they should take the Vanara Heroes too to Ayodhya and Rama agreed. Tara and other Vanara princesses also boarded the Pushpaka there. As the plane flew over the Pampa and Godavari rivers, Rama showed Sita the sites where he met Bharata and then the Ganga, the Yamuna and then they sighted Ayodhya. Meanwhile, as they neared Bharadwaja's hermitage, Rama ordered the plane to land there first.

The sage generated even unseasoned fruits and vegetables with his divine powers and fed the guests.

134 Bharata's excitement

Rama summoned Hanuman and said, " Hanuman, you must go to Ayodhya first, visit Srungabheripura and inform my friend Guha about my safe return. He will show you the way to Ayodhya. Meet Bharata and tell him we are returning there. Watch his face for his reactions. Observe if he wants to rule Ayodhya by himself or desires us to return Ayodhya. If he desires that I should return, you stay back." Accordingly, Hanuman first met Guha and then went to Nandigrama and told Bharata that Rama was returning to Ayodhya with his entourage. English:

Speak only as godlike of the man who feels another's pain
Who shares another's sorrow and pride does disdain
Who regards himself lowliest of the low
Speaks not a word of evil against anyone
Blessed is the mother who gave birth to such a son
Who looks upon everyone as his equal,
Lust he has renounced
Who honors women like he honors his mother
Whose tongue knows not the taste of falsehood
Nor covets another's worldly goods
Who longs not for worldly wealth (or fame)
For he treads the path of renunciation
Ever on his lips is Ram's holy name
All places of pilgrimage are within him
He has conquered greed, is free of deceit, lust and anger
Through him Narsinh has godly vision
And his generation to come will attain salvation.

Ai malik tere bande ham, Aise hon hamare karam
Neki par chalen, Aur badi se talen
Taki hanste huye nikale dam, Ai malik tere bande ham

Jab zulmon ka ho samana, Tab tu hi hamen thamana
Wo burai karen, Ham bhalai bharen
Nahin badale ki ho kamana
Badh uthe pyar ka har kadam, Aur mite bair ka ye bharam, Neki par chalen . . .

Ye andhera ghana chha raha, Tera insan ghabara raha
Ho raha bekhabar, Kuchh na ata nazar
Sukh ka suraj chhipa ja raha
Hai teri roshani men wo dam, Jo amavas ko kar de poonam, Neki par chalen . . .

Bada kamzor hai adami, Abhi lakhon hain ismen kamin
Par tu jo khada, Hai dayalu bada
Teri kripa se dharti thami
Diya tune hamen jab janam, Tu hi jhelega ham sabke gam, Neki par chalen . . .

Muniyon ne samjhi, guniyon ne jaani,

LORD SRI RAM

Ram is the 7th incarnation of Vishnu and the central figure of the Ramayana epic. The Ramayan is the very soul of India. It is a complete guide to God-realization, the path to which lies in righteousness. The ideals of man are beautifully portrayed in it. Everyone should emulate those ideals and grow into ideal human beings and ideal citizens.

Ram took birth to free the earth from the cruelty and sins of the demon King Ravana (Ravan). Ravana had practiced austerities in order to propitiate Shiva and Brahma, who had granted him immunity from being killed by gods, gandharvas or demons. One of the gods had to take on a human form in order to be

able to defeat Ravana. Ram was born as the first son of Dasharatha, king of Ayodhya. Ram's mother was Kausilya. Ram had three brothers : Bharata (Bharat) born from the second wife Kaikeyi, and Lakshmana (Lakshman) and Shatrughna born from the third wife Sumitra. One day Saint Vishwamitra visited Ayodhya and asked Dashratha to send Ram and Lakshmana with him because the Yakshini (demon) Tarka - with her two sons Mareech and Subahu - were terrifying him and the other saints at his ashram. They were not letting them worship and meditate. Ram went with Lakshmana and Vishwamitra to kill Tarka. On the way to Saint Vishwamitra's ashram there was a dense forest. When they entered the forest Tarka came to kill them but Ram killed her and her son Subahu with a weapon given to him by Vishwamitra. Ram also shot an arrow at Mareech and threw him 100 yojan far away.

Later Ram went with Saint Vishwamitr to Mithila where the wise King Janak ruled. King Janak had organized a svayamvaraa (an acient custom wherein the bride chose her husband of her own accord from amongst a number of suitors). It was announced that whosoever will bend the bow of Lord Shiva will marry King Janak's daughter Sita. Sita was an incarnation of Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu. But none of the suitors was able to lift Lord Shiva's bow, except Ram. Ram lifted the bow with his one hand and bended it so hard that it even broke.

So Ram got married to Sita, and his brothers got happily married to Sita's sisters. After returning and living happily in Ayodhya the old King Dashrath decided that it was time to give his kingdom to his beloved son Ram. There Kaikeyi, the third and youngest wife of the King, claimed the throne for her son Bharat. A long time before the young Queen had saved the King's life and he had promised to fulfill her two wishes. Manthara, the crooked and evil-minded maid-servant of Kaikeyi influenced the queen to claim her wishes now in favor of her son and to request Dashrath to banish Ram from the kingdom for fourteen years, and to install Bharat on the throne instead. The King was shocked, his heart was broken, but he knew that truth isthe highest Dharm, and that he had to fulfill his promise to his wife. So Ram went to exile happily, knowing that to obey and serve his father was the highest duty of a son.

After Ram left to the forest, Dashrath died from the pangs of separation from his beloved son Ram. Bharat went to the forest to meet his brother Ram and to request him to come back to Ayodhya. When Ram refused to return, in honor of the promise to his father, Bharat took Ram's "khadau" (wooden sandals) and placed them symbolically on Ayodhya's throne. Until his brother returned from the exile Bharat served the kingdom as a true and honest caretaker of Ram.

Once Surpnakha, the sister of Ravana, passed by the place where Ram was living. She saw Ram and became impressed by his beauty. She transformed herself into a beautiful lady and went to Ram and asked him to marry her. When Ram refused and told her he is already married to Sita, she became angry. Coming back to her original form she ran towards Sita to kill her. When Lakshman saw that he cut her nose and one ear. Surpnakha then send her brother Khardushan with fourteen thousand rakshasas to avenge her. But all were killed by Ram.

Surpnakha now sought vengeance through her older brother Ravana, but only got his interest by pointing out that the beautiful Sita would be a fitting wife for him. Ravana lured Ram and Lakshman away from Sita by sending an enchanted deer of extreme beauty and then took Sita to his kingdom of Lanka. On the way, Jatayu, a vulture bird and old friend of Ram's father Dashrath, fought Ravan but was fatally wounded. He lived only long enough to tell Ram what had happened upon his return.

In Lanka, Ravana tried to threathen Sita into marrying him, but was rejected again and again. Meanwhile, Ram made an alliance with the monkey King Sugreeva, who had been exiled from his kingdom by his brother Bali. Ram helped Sugreeva to regain his kingdom and in return Sugreeva raised an army of monkeys and bears, led by Hanuman. When they reached the sea, Hanuman flew across. On the way he had many adventures, which can be found on the Hanuman page.

In Lanka, Hanuman promised Sita that help would come soon. When he was then captured by the rakshasas, Ravana ordered them to set fire to Hanuman's tail, wrapping it with oily rags. But Hanuman increased the length of his tail so much that there seemed no end to it. He escaped and used his burning tail to set fire to all of Lanka.

Meanwhile, Ram's army had build a huge bridge between Lanka and the mainland. They crossed the ocean and attacked Ravana's army. During the battle, Lakshmana was heavily wounded, but he was cured by a magic herb which Hanuman flew all the way to the Himalayas to obtain. Not finding the herb at first, Hanuman brought the entire mountain just to be sure. Finally, all rakshasa generals were killed and the battle become a single combat between Ravana and Ram. Finally, Ram killed Ravana with a special weapon given to him by saint Agastya.

This was a moment of great rejoicing. Ram and Sita were finally crowned King and Queen of Ayodhya, though people were doubting that Sita had preserved her virtue while being Ravana's captive, which is another story in itself.

RAM NAVAMI

Ramanavami celebrates the birth of Rama or Ramachandra. On the ninth day of the first fortnight of Chaitra the birth of Rama is commemorated. The story of Rama was first written by Vaalmeeki in about the 4th century B.C. Rama is supposed to have lived during the 8th or 7th century B.C. The epic known as the Ramayana. In some parts of India, it is a nine-day festival, coinciding with the Vasanta Navaratri (see also Navaratri).

The public worship starts with morning ablutions, chanting Vedic mantras dedicated to Vishnu, and offering flowers and fruit to the god. People keep a fast throughout the day, breaking it only at midnight with fruit. In

some parts of India, especially Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, public gatherings called satsangs are organised to commemorate the birth of Rama. Excerpts from the Ramacharitamanas, extolling the glory of Rama, are recited. People of all castes and creeds participate in these gatherings to listen to the stories and their explanations offered by the learned.

Rama’s Birth:
The country of Kosal was situated on the banks of the river Sharayu. Ayodhya was the capital founded by the king rishi Manu. During the reign of king Dasarath, Ayodhya reached a period of great prosperity. But Dasarath faced a big problem: he had no children. Therefore he decided to perform a sacrifice known as “ashvamedh”, or horse-sacrifice. Elaborate and difficult rituals had to be observed. A very holy man, rishi Rishyashring, was chosen to conduct the sacrifice with the utmost accuracy. The performance of this sacrifice was a great event in Ayodhya. At the end Rishyashring recited a mantra and made an offering to the fire. Then the gods, gandharvas, siddhas, and rishis present arid began to pray to Brahma.

At that time Ravan, king of Lanka, was terrorizing the people, and all were longing for liberation from his menace. Ravan had acquired great power because he had obtained from god Brahma the boon that he would never die at the hands of gods, or gandharvas, or yakshas (demigods) or demons. As he was not afraid of men he did not care to include men in the list of his potential slayers. So Brahmadev declared that Ravan would die at the hands of a man. Then the gods went to Vishnu with the request, “Dasarath is a glorious king. Please, take birth in the wombs of his three queens in four different degrees of your divinity.”When Dasarath’s sacrifice came to an end a shining

figure appeared over the sacrificial kund, and offered the king a divine beverage called “payasam” to be given to his queens Kausalya, Kaikayi, and Sumitra. In due time Kausalya gave birth to Rama, Kaikayi to Bharat and Sumitra to Laxman and Shatrugna. Rama was born at noon of the bright ninth day of Chaitra. He was believed to be the embodiment of half degree of Vishnu’s divinity, (ardha ounsh).

Legend:
Four storeys - even the original Ravana may not have been so tall. But this is the Kali Yuga, when evil is supposed to assume an even more terrifying form. Ravana has his moments of glory, and that too, on Rama Navami, the birthday of Rama. The effigy of the ten-headed Ravana swaggers through the town, wearing a gaudy crown and exaggerated moustache, with shouting hordes following. But once Ravana reaches the open ground that is his final destination, he is suddenly deserted by most of his "followers" - because the noble Rama has made his appearance.

In the end, righteousness does triumph, even in Kali Yuga. Rama engages him in battle, and finally pierces him with a potent arrow. And the huge effigy of Ravana, filled to bursting with firecrackers, is set alight, and explodes into a thousand bits amid loud cheers from the crowd and shouts of Jai Shri Ram. This ritual is an important part of the Rama Navami celebrations in most parts of North India.

Rama Navami falls on the ninth day of the shukla paksha, or bright phase of the moon, in the lunar month of Chaitra (April-May). The first day of Chaitra , or Ugadi, also marks the beginning of the Indian year.

Rama is one of the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu, and one of the two most popular, along with Krishna. Consequently, Rama Navami is widely celebrated, though not on the scale of festivals like Diwali or Dussehra.

According to legend, Rama was born at noon. Rama is the epitome of perfection, the uttama purusha, fulfilling all his duties towards both family and subjects.

Rama was the first of the four sons of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya. When it was time for Rama to be made crown-prince, his stepmother, Kaikeyi, got Dasharatha to send him to the forest for 14 years. His wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana also accompanied him. In the forest, Sita was kidnapped by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka. Rama, together with Hanuman and the monkey army, built a bridge to Lanka, killed Ravana, and brought Sita back.

It is believed that listening to the story of Rama cleanses the soul. Meditating on the noble Rama and chanting his name is believed to ease the pains of life and lead one to moksha, or liberation. It is also common practice to chant the name of Rama while rocking babies to sleep.

Significance:
Though Rama Navami is a major festival for Vaishnavites, it is widely celebrated by worshippers of Shiva, too.

It is considered auspicious to undertake a fast on the day in the name of Rama. The more devout fast for nine days, from Ugadi to Rama Navami. The objective of the fast is not to ask for special favours of the deity but to seek perfection as a human being. Devotees perform elaborate pujas and chant the name of Rama. Temples of Rama have special services and bhajan sessions through the day.

One significant and popular element of the

celebration is the Ramayana parayana, a discourse on the Ramayana, by a pundit or a professional story-teller. It usually lasts nine days, beginning on Ugadi and ending on Rama Navami. A skilled story-teller who can liven up the event by weaving in contemporary events attracts massive crowds. Since Rama is also one of the most sung-about deities in Indian classical music and literature, week-long (and sometimes, month-long) musical programmes are organised.

Sacred places associated with Rama, like Ayodhya, Ujjain and Rameshwaram, draw tens of thousands of devotees. In Rameshwaram, thousands take a ritual bath in the sea before worshipping at the Ramanathaswamy temple.

Many places in North India host fairs in connection with the festival, culminating in spectacular fireworks on Rama Navami.

dhanuśa bāṇa ke dhāraṇa-hare, rākṣasa māri kaṣṭa saba tāre,

hanumāna ke prāṇa ko, bārambāra praṇāma hai

TRANSLATION

1) He whose name is Rama, and whose abode is Ayodhya – unto such the Lord of the Raghu Dynasty, I offer my most humble obeisances, again and again.

2) He whose mother is Kausalya, and whose father is Dasaratha – unto such an abode of mercy, I offer my most humble obeisances, again and again.

3) Lord Ramacandra protected Sage Visvamitra’s fire sacrifices from demons Subahu and Marica, He redeemed Ahilya, Sage Gautama’s wife, from his curse – unto such a merciful Lord, I offer my most humble obeisances, again and again.

4) Lord Ramacandra relieved King Janaka from his humiliation and miseries by marrying his daughter, Sita. He accepted Sita as His wife and came back to Ayodhya. Unto the Lord of Sita Devi, I offer my most humble obeisances, again and again.

5) To honor the promise of his father to live in the forest for fourteen years and abdicate the throne, Lord Ramacandra went with His wife, Sita (Janaki), and His dear brother, Laksmana. Unto the dear Lord of Sabari, Lord Ramacandra, I offer my most humble obeisances, again and again.

6) He is Lord Hari, Himself, adorned with a bow and arrows. He killed the demoniac class of men (raksasas), thus redeeming them, and relieved suffering in the word. To the life and soul of Hanuman, I offer my most humble obeisances, again and again.

SUKH KE SAB SÃTHI

Sukh ke sab sãthi dukh men na koi
Many friends and companions when times are good, but none when times are bad
Mere Rãm, mere Rãm
My Lord Rama, My Lord Rama
Terã nãm ek sãnchã dujã na koi
Your Divine Name is the only Truth, and there is none other

Jeevan ãni jãni chhãyã
Life is but a mere shadow that comes and goes
Jhoothi mãyã jhoothi kãyã
A false illusion, a false material body
Phir kãhe ko sãri umariyã pãp ki gathari ðhoi
Then why, for the whole of our lifetimes, have we been carrying this burden of sins?

Na kuchh terã na kuchh merã
Nothing is yours, nothing is mine
Ye jag jogivãlã pherã
This Universe is cyclical in nature
Rãjã ho yã rank sabhikã ant ek sã hoe
One may be a king or a pauper, but the end is still the same

Bãhar ki tu mãti phãnke
You savour the external dirt
Man ke bheetar kyun na jhãnke
Why don’t you take a peep into your mind and heart?
Ujale tan par mãn kiyã aur man ki mail na dhoi
Showing great concern for the glittering body but never cleansing the mind of its filth
